🔹 What is a Transitive Verb?
A transitive verb needs an object (a person or thing receiving the action) to complete its meaning.
Structure: Subject + Transitive Verb + Object
- She wrote a letter.
- They bought a new car.
- He opened the door.
- We watched a movie.
- The teacher explained the lesson.
Ask "What?" or "Whom?" after the verb. She wrote what? → a letter ✔
🔸 What is an Intransitive Verb?
An intransitive verb does not need an object. The sentence is complete without one.
Structure: Subject + Intransitive Verb
- The baby cried.
- They arrived.
- She laughed.
- The sun rose.
- He slept.

🔄 Some verbs can be both
- The bell rang. (Intransitive) | She rang the bell. (Transitive)
- The children ate. (Intransitive) | The children ate pizza. (Transitive)
- The door opened. (Intransitive) | He opened the door. (Transitive)
🧠 Easy trick: Ask What? or Whom? after the verb. If you get an answer → Transitive. If not → Intransitive.
- She bought a pen. → Bought what? → a pen ✔ (Transitive)
- He slept. → Slept what? → No answer ✔ (Intransitive)
